Thanksgiving at Home

Thanksgiving at Home will not take place in 2020. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Each November, the OISS makes special arrangements for interested international students and scholars (and their families) to join a local family for Thanksgiving dinner. This is one of our favorite traditions, and a great opportunity to experience an American holiday with a local family.

Students and Scholars

Our Thanksgiving at Home program continues to be one of our most popular events of the year. There is no better way to experience the traditions of the Thanksgiving holiday than with an American family. Our hosts come from a variety of backgrounds in the Yale community, each with their own set of family traditions.

We do our best to place as many students and scholars as possible, but we cannot guarantee your space until you have been matched with a host and you confirm your attendance (details to follow). By registering for this program, you must be available all day on Thanksgiving to be eligible to be placed with a family. Please only sign-up if you are positive that you will be here and can attend.

You will be contacted no later than the Friday before the holiday to confirm that you have been matched with a host family, and further details will be shared at that time. Get ready for some turkey, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie! See registration link for more details and sign-up as soon as possible!

Become a Host for Thanksgiving

Registration is closed for hosting for Thanksgiving this year. Please keep an eye out for registration to open next October.

In keeping with one of our favorite traditions, the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) is seeking members of the Yale community who are willing to open their home on Thanksgiving to one or more of our international students/scholars.

All hosts will receive the name(s) and contact information of their guest(s) after the matches have been made about a week before the holiday. If you have questions about becoming a host or want additional information, please contact Molly Hampton, Assistant Director of Programs, at molly.hampton@yale.edu.

By registering to become a host, you can play an active role in helping our international community feel welcomed and a part of New Haven during this holiday season. If you have room at your Thanksgiving table and can commit to hosting one or more students/scholars, please fill out our online host registration form.
