Overview of the Process

Obtaining the DS-2019

1. The appointment is confirmed.
2. The department submits a 'J-1 Visa - Yale Sponsorship Application' Request in MyOISS, submitting basic information like the appointment start/end date.
3. Once the initial intake form is complete, the scholar will receive an email to invite them to fill out their required information.
4. As soon as all form requirements and documentation are completed by the department and the scholar, the request will go to OISS for review. It can take up to 10 business days to be processed by OISS, and possibly longer during busier times of the year.
5. When the processing of the record is complete, a DS-2019 will be issued for the scholar and any accompanying dependents. The form(s) is signed and stored electronically in the scholar's MyOISS record. The scholar will receive a welcome email from OISS with instructions on how to retrieve their signed DS-2019 for their visa application.
