All students in F-1 and J-1 status must maintain the following in their SEVIS record:
- Current U.S. Address
- Foreign Address
- U.S. Phone Number (if you have one)
OISS reports this information to SEVIS, but you must first update the information in the Student Information System (SIS).
Any change in your addresses or phone number must be reported in the Student Information System (SIS) within 10 days of the change.

New & Continuing Yale Students
- Log into SIS
- Click on the Personal Data in the top row, then select My Addresses
- In the My Address section, find ‘OISS U.S. Address’ and click on the Edit or Add button below it:
- Enter today’s date in the ‘Valid From’ field. If the ‘Valid Until’ field is available, be sure to leave it blank.
- Enter your updated U.S. address:
- Address Line 1 must contain only your street number and street name (ex. 421 Temple St)
- Address Line 2 can contain your residence hall name, apartment building name and/or room/apartment number
- Include city, state and zip code in the appropriate fields
- Your OISS U.S. address should look like this (using the OISS Office address as an example):
Valid from: 08/01/2021
Address Line 1: 421 Temple St
Address Line 2: (blank)
City: New Haven
State: Connecticut
Zip Code: 06511
- After entering your address and saving initially, the system may validate it based on city/state/zip and a recognizable street number-street name combo. Select ‘Suggested Address’ if accurate.
- Click the Save button to save.
- Log into SIS
- Click on the Personal Data in the top row, then select My Addresses
- In the My Address section, find ‘OISS Foreign Address’ and click on the Edit or Add button below it:
- Enter today’s date in the ‘Valid From’ field. If the ‘Valid Until’ field is available, be sure to leave it blank.
- Enter your foreign address. This should be an address where you would return to after leaving the U.S. and can be a family member's address.
- Click the Save button to save.
If you do not have a U.S. phone number yet, you may wait to update this until you obtain one.
- Log into SIS.
- Click on the Personal Data button (A) in the top row, then select Personal Information (B)
- In the Phone Number section, find ‘Residence Location for OISS’ and click on the edit pencil below it:
- Enter your updated U.S. phone number, keeping the following in mind:
- No international code needed. The area code field should contain only the first three digits of your U.S. phone number (ex. 203)
- The phone number field should include only the remaining 7 digits of your U.S. phone number
- Do not use the extension field or the international access field
- Do not enter any symbols (such as +1) only enter numbers in these fields
- Your OISS phone number should look like this:
Area Code: 203
Phone number: 4563131
- Click the Update button to save
If you do not have a U.S. phone number yet, you may wait to update this until you obtain one.
- Follow 1-2 in the instructions above for Continuing Students.
- Find the Phone Number section and click on Add New to the right:
- From the drop down menu, select Residence Location for OISS:
- Enter your U.S. phone number, keeping the following in mind:
- No international code needed. The area code field should contain only the first three digits of your U.S. phone number (ex. 203)
- The phone number field should include only the remaining 7 digits of your U.S. phone number
- Do not use the extension field or the international access field
- Do not enter any symbols (such as +1) only enter numbers in these fields
- Your OISS phone number should look like this:
Area Code: 203
Phone number: 4563131
- Finally, click the Add button to save.
Non-Yale J-1 Student
- You must report your change of address to your sponsor.
