You will be added to the compulsory Canvas course International Student Orientation 2026 either on the same day or 1-2 days prior to your issuance of immigration document (I-20 for F-1s and DS-2019 for J-1s).
Access the Course Using a Web Browser (Computer)
- Open the email Course Invitation from Canvas@Yale Bulldogs at notifications@instructure.com. Click Get Started.
- Click on NetID Login, then log in with your Yale CAS Information.
- Click Accept.
- Click International Student Orientation 2026 to start accessing the Canvas course.
Completing the Course
- Once you are in the Canvas course, start with the first page under the first section of Yale Overview by clicking on Welcome to Yale!
- Read the information carefully before progressing to the next step. Proceed by clicking Next.
- Throughout the Canvas course, there will be quizzes to test your understanding of the provided content. Click Begin to start the quiz. Please make sure you answer all questions correctly, as they are prerequisites for course completion.
- After quiz completion, click Next to proceed to the next section.
- You don’t have to complete this Canvas course at one go. Please use the suggested required time under each section for reference. Completed parts are marked with a green tick, while incomplete parts are marked with a hollow circle.
- There are parts where you are required to click Mark as done to proceed. Please do as instructed.
- To access the Final Quiz, you must complete all previous sections and quizzes. Below is a screenshot of a user trying to access the Final Quiz without having completed all previous sections. Click on the prompted section/quiz for completion.
Obtaining the Unique Completion Code
Upon completion of the Final Quiz, you will receive a unique completion code, to be used in Immigration Online Check-in after you arrive in the U.S.
Using the Completion Code for OISS Online Immigration Check-in
After your arrival in the U.S., follow our instructions to complete an online check-in process. As part of the check-in process, retrieve and input the completion code from the International Student Orientation 2026 Canvas course (in the last module, after the final quiz). Below is a screenshot of the last step of online check-in process.
