Teng Xu
Teng Xu is an Adviser at Yale OISS. He holds a Master of Education in Second Language and Culture, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies, both from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. His academic background in intercultural communication and language acquisition forms the foundation of his supportive, student-centered approach.
Prior to joining OISS at Yale, he served as an F-1 Advisor at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. In this role, he guided and supported students on F-1 visa matters, and offered advice on personal, cultural and identity-based challenges faced by students. Teng also has experience working as a teacher in a Minnesota public elementary school.
Having lived and studied in Minnesota for 19 years before relocating to New Haven, Connecticut, Teng personally understands what it takes to adjust to a new place. As a former international student himself, he brings a wealth of lived experience and genuine empathy to his advising practice, making him equipped to help international students and scholars navigate their transition to life in the United States.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Teng is a runner and movie enthusiast. He cherishes quality time spent with his family and friends, and he is excited to explore the vibrant communities of Connecticut and the greater New England region.
