Paying the SEVIS Fee

Due to the COVID-19 public health emergency, you may want to consider waiting to pay the $350 SEVIS fee until U.S. consular services are fully restored. SEVP will not issue a refund if you cannot come to the U.S. for any reason.

What is the SEVIS Fee and When to Pay It

All new F-1 students must pay a one time SEVIS fee ($350). F-2 dependents do not have to pay the SEVIS fee.

The SEVIS fee is different from the “MRV fee” (visa processing fee). You do not need to pay the SEVIS fee to make a visa appointment, but the SEVIS fee must be paid at least three days prior to attending your visa interview at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Canadian citizens, who are exempt from the visa requirement, must pay the SEVIS fee at least three days prior to requesting for admission to the U.S. at a U.S. port of entry.
