Sprintax Nonresident Tax Webinar

In this tax webinar, international students, scholars and professionals will be run through everything they need to know about nonresident tax for the 2025 tax season. Topics will include who must file, tax residency, FICA, State returns, implications of misfiling as well as how to use Sprintax to prepare a compliant tax return. Downtown Street Art Walking Tour

Thursday, April 9 - 5:00pm to 6:45pm

Join us for a 2 mile walk around downtown New Haven and see 10+ stunning murals along the way. At the end of our tour, OISS will treat you to some Arethusa ice cream together! We will meet outside of OISS at 421 Temple Street and begin the walk from there. Please make sure you’re on time so we can leave as a group. You must register to attend. In case of inclement weather, OISS will be in touch on the morning of the program to cancel/postpone if necessary.

ISPY Meet-Up: Happy Hour at The Well (Schwarzman Center)

OISS April gathering for the international spouses and partners at Yale (ISPY) is here, and this time we are meeting up at The Well at Schwarzman Center! OISS will treat you to an alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage under $8. This program is for 21+ participants, and you are required to carry your ID with proof of age to enter the venue. The Brutalist: An Architecture Tour of New Haven (with IKEA Ice Cream!)

New Haven is famous for many things, but its Brutalist landmarks are certainly not to be missed! Join us for an in-depth walking tour to explore the major Brutalist buildings in downtown New Haven. Tentative itinerary*: - Rudolph Hall (School of Architecture) - Temple Street Parking Garage - New Haven Fire Department - The Hotel Marcel On the day, we will enter a few of these buildings for a more in-depth guided tour. We will end the tour at the Hotel Marcel next to IKEA, and we will treat all participants to IKEA ice cream! Participants are welcome to walk back to downtown New Haven with the OISS group after the tour. *Please note that the itinerary is subject to change, and the most updated itinerary will be shared with participants on the day of the event.

Kites of the World: Celebrating Diversity and Tradition

Tuesday, April 14 - 5:30pm to 7:00pm

Join us to celebrate National Kite Month with a unique event that explores the cultural significance of kite flying around the world. Participants will have the chance to craft their very own kites that reflect their personal identity and cultural heritage. Basic supplies will be provided, enabling you to create a simple kite that, hopefully, will fly! Embark on a creative journey where you can share your own kite traditions, learn from others, and design something truly unique to enjoy this spring and summer.

Join this career workshop at OISS! Be ready to bring your resume for this workshop! Our friends at Yale University’s Talent Acquisition will share the best practices for resumes and conduct a session for working on our resumes together at OISS! Also joining the session is Anne Funcke (Development Program Coordinator, Major Gifts), an ISPY member who landed her current role at Yale's Office of Development in 2023! Ask her about her job hunt journey in New Haven and her collaboration with New Haven Hiring Initiative! Yale University Talent Acquisition is a department within Yale’s Human Resources dedicated to locating, attracting and hiring top talent for Yale. Light refreshments will be provided.

Picnic and Ikigai under the Cherry Blossoms

Join OISS for a spring visit to the cherry blossoms in Wooster Square. We’ll gather for a relaxed picnic, enjoy some Japanese snacks, and take part in a simple ikigai reflection activity. We’ll also spend a little time learning about the cultural significance and history of cherry blossoms in Japan from the Japanese Association of Students and Scholars. This will be a casual opportunity to enjoy the season, connect with others, and celebrate spring together. This event is run by the OISS Grad Fellows.

Day in Deep River: Pick-Your-Own Daffodils + Thrifting & Animal Sanctuary

Saturday, April 18 - 10:15am to 4:30pm

What better way to get to know your new surroundings than attending New England's State Fair? The Big E only happens once a year, and is the seventh largest fair in the United States and brings together all six of New England states including Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont! The Big E has countless activities to participate in throughout the day, but a few of their big attractions include: The Avenue of States Livestock and Agricultural Events FOOD, FOOD, and more FOOD Shopping Concerts Rides and much more Your ticket price includes roundtrip transportation from OISS to the Big E in West Springfield, Massachusetts and your entry into the fair. You will be responsible for all other costs throughout the day such as food and ride tickets. Notes: Open to international students & scholars. Registration is required and you must be 18+ in order to attend. This program is rain or shine so please plan accordingly - further details will be sent to everyone registered closer to the date of the program. All ticket sales are final and no refunds will be given.

OISS X SATAY Songkran Celebration

Sunday, April 19 - 1:30pm to 3:30pm

Celebrate the Thai New Year with us at Yale’s first ever Songkran Water Festival, a joyful tradition that symbolizes renewal, cleansing, and fresh beginnings! Co-organized by Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) and the Student Association of Thais at Yale (SATAY), this event brings the spirit of Thailand to McDougal Courtyard with community and (light!) water play. We’ll have water balloons and toy water guns ready, so come prepared to get a little wet and fully embrace the fun. Light refreshments will be provided, and everyone is welcome! If you wish to participate in the water fight, please note that: You will get wet. To stay dry, please stay clear of the designated splash zone. You are recommended to bring spare clothes for changing, towels for drying, and optional gear for protection (goggles, waterproof pouches, etc.). Respect the indoors: please dry off completely before entering any Yale buildings. There are inherent risks with this outdoor water activity, please exercise caution at all times.
