This week’s #humansofoiss features Fern Limprayoon from Thailand. She is a first year PhD student in Computer Science.

Fern grew up in Bangkok, Thailand and went to boarding school in Connecticut. She did her Bachelor’s in Artificial Intelligence at Carnegie Mellon University after which she came to Yale to conduct her PhD research. Her research here is focused on human robot interactions and understanding human behaviors with the use of robots. The project she is working on right now involves how anti-social behaviors exhibited by robots can create pro-social environments overall, similar to how people show sympathy towards the villains from movies in some specific cases.

Fern is involved with an organization Disability Pride PA which promotes confidence in people with disabilities. She is joining the planning committee this year to help plan their events across different cities in PA, including Pittsburgh, coming up this year. She also enjoys painting and recently discovered the art in makeup, and she has been experimenting with the techniques and hopes to become more experienced in the future.
