Day Trip to NYC & Guided Tour of Harlem

Saturday, October 7, 2017 - 8:00am to 9:30pm
Join us for a day trip to the Big Apple! We will be traveling as a group on the Metro North, meeting at Union Station in New Haven at 8:00am. We will arrive to 125th Street in Manhattan a little after 10:00am, and begin our day with a guided tour of Harlem! We will start at the famous Apollo Theater and then walk through Harlem while we discuss and discover the deep history of the neighborhood and it’s roots in political organizing, civil rights struggles, the NAACP, and the Harlem Renaissance.After the tour ends, you’re free to go off on your own or with your fellow Yalies and explore the many sites of NYC. Molly will head down to Central Park after the tour, for informal walk down Museum Mile for anyone that wants to join her an additional hour of exploration!We will meet back at Grand Central Station at 7:00pm to head back to New Haven, where we will arrive around 9:30pm. Detailed instructions will be sent to you closer to the date of the program.Note: Open to the Yale community.The fee covers round-trip transportation on the Metro North (but you must travel with the group as we are listed on one group ticket) and the guided tour of Harlem; you will be responsible for all other expenses. Space is limited and unfortunately there can be no children under the age of 18. No refunds will be issued.
