Uma’s Afternoon: Guided Tour at Yale University Art Gallery

Register for Uma's Afternoon: Guided Tour at Yale University Art Gallery
Friday, July 19, 2019 - 3:30pm to 4:30pm

Join OISS staff member, Uma Shankar, and Yale University Art Gallery staff for a one hour guided tour at the Yale University Art Gallery, the oldest University Art Museum in the Western Hemisphere. We will be touring their newest exhibit, A Nation Reflected: Stories in American Glass, which explores the myriad ways in which glass expresses the cultural, technological, and artistic aspirations of those who live and work in the U.S. The development of glassmaking in America, beginning with the short-lived glasshouses in early 17th-century Jamestown, Virginia, has mirrored the expansion of colonial settlements into a thriving nation, and thus the medium offers captivating stories about many aspects of American history. This exhibit features more than 100 objects drawn from the YUAG's collection, with select loans from the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History. We will meet in the lobby of the YUAG at 3:15pm - please be on time. Don't miss this unique opportunity for a private tour of one of the most beautiful spaces on campus! Note: Free, but you must register to attend - spaces are very limited. Open to the Yale Community.
