Earlier this month, Chief Campbell sent an email to the Yale Community with some reminders on staying safe now that daylight saving time has ended. We've included the points of the message below, but you can read his full message here. Stay safe this season!
- Use the LiveSafe app: Download the LiveSafe app and explore its safety tools, including SafeWalk, which allows you to temporarily share your location with friends. You can also request a Yale Security walking escort through the app or by calling 203-785-5555.
- Stay aware of your surroundings: Whether on or off campus, remain alert. Keep windows locked and clear of obstructions, and make sure exterior areas around your residence or office are well-lit.
- Cyclist and pedestrian safety: With earlier nightfall, cyclists should wear reflective gear and use bike lights. Pedestrians and drivers should stay alert—always check bike lanes before making turns.
- Vehicle security: To help prevent vehicle thefts and thefts from unattended vehicles, keep personal belongings secured in your trunk and out of sight. Always lock your vehicle when not in use and store your key fob away from your car to prevent relay thefts. The Yale Police Department offers The Club steering wheel lock free of charge. Contact Yale Dispatch at 203-432-4400 for details.
- Prevent scooter and bicycle theft: Thefts of electric scooters and bicycles have increased this fall. Whenever possible, lock your scooter or bike in a well-lit, visible area and use a hardened steel U-lock for added protection.
