#humansofoiss this week, we feature Viktor from Ukraine . He is a postdoc in physiology department. To know him better, I asked him several questions. And I decided to put this question first (which was my final question I asked him originally)so you can have a feeling of how humorous he is

Q: What are your future aspirations?

My current professional goal is for my #humansofoiss post on Facebook to get 100 likes.
Let’s click on like to make his goal come true!!!!!

Q: Could you share a memorable moment from your first day on Yale’s campus?

I was walking around the campus and saw a student wearing a t-shirt with a characteristic blue color and a white caption that said “Kale”. I was immediately impressed and convinced that Yale is a place where people have a great sense of humor and care about their nutrition.

Q: What’s your research?

I am trying to understand how animals sense cold. We all know that if you feel a gust of cold winter air, you might start to shiver. But what if the neurons in your brain were directly exposed to cold temperature? How would you feel? And why? Which cells and molecules would be involved? That’s what I am trying to uncover in my research.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about New Haven or the surrounding area?

My favorite thing about New Haven is the relatively small size and the related strong sense of community. This is a place where you constantly run into people you know. I had a hypothesis that every time I go to Gryphon’s to have a glass of water, I inevitably meet at least one friend. I tested this hypothesis many times and it was proven true every single time. Afterwards I was able to celebrate the successful experiment by having a couple of glasses of water with at least one friend.
