“Embrace Opportunities, Live a Memorable Life: The Inspiring Journey of David” #humansofoiss

Avicii’s words, “One day you will leave this world behind, so live a life you will remember,” shared by David during our interview. David, an adventurous individual from Spain, adopted these words as his guiding principle.
David’s sociability and active participation in OISS events caught my attention. He ventured beyond his comfort zone, coming to a new country, joining a new lab as its first member, forging connections with diverse individuals. His adventurous spirit led to notable contributions to the scientific community, including involvement with the Association of Spanish Scientists in the US(ECUSA) and the Wu Tsai Institute at Yale, and organizing department retreats.

A major in Pharmacy during undergrad, David now serves as a post-grad assistant in Yale’s Cellular and Molecular Physiology Department. Allow me to share the legendary story of how he found himself at Yale. His journey began with creating a scientific Twitter account in his senior year to accomplish one of his hobbies: outreach, and to educate the public about the different ingredients in the Covid vaccine. After graduation, seeking guidance for the future, he reached out to scientists with this twitter account. To his astonishment, five months later, a professor texted him that a friend of hers was establishing a new lab at Yale and expressed a desire to recommend David as a post-graduate assistant. This anecdote serves as a testament to the importance of outreach and networking, and never giving up pursuing your dreams.

Presently, David is engaged in the study of the neurovascular plasticity in a model obesity, trying to understand how neuronal, immune, and vascular networks coordinately control energy homeostasis. However, his future pursuits are in the field of translational research: scientific discoveries are translated from the laboratory to tangible benefits for humanity.
