Requests in MyOISS

Requests in MyOISS are similar to requests in our previous immigration system, OISS Connect. They are the means by which you would request a new immigration document for a scholar because of a change or update to an appointment.

Yale-Sponsored J-1 Scholar Requests

J-1 Visa - Yale Sponsorship Application

  • Creating a J-1 Scholar Visa Sponsorship Application Request is the formal procedure by which a hiring department signifies its intention to sponsor a J-1 international scholar at Yale University.

J-1 Scholar Change in Appointment

  • Use this request for scholars who will be changing something about their current appointment, i.e. their title or funding, end date extended or shortened, department, or site of activity.

J-1 Delayed Arrival

  • Use this request for scholars whose arrival plans have changed: they intend to arrive AFTER the arrival date listed on their DS-2019.
  • OISS will generate an amended DS-2019 form for the scholar. Both the amended and the original DS-2019 forms should be printed and brought with the scholar for international travels. The visa obtained with their original DS-2019 is still valid.

J-1 Early Arrival

  • Use this request for scholars whose arrival plans have changed: they intend to arrive BEFORE the arrival date listed on their DS-2019.
  • OISS will generate an amended DS-2019 form for the scholar. Both the amended and the original DS-2019 forms should be printed and brought with the scholar for international travels. The visa obtained with their original DS-2019 is still valid.

J-1 Cancel DS-2019

  • Use this request for scholars who have not yet entered the U.S. and will no longer be coming to Yale.

J-1 Scholar Change Host Department

  • Report a scholar's plans to transfer to another department within Yale. This request is for the current/previous department, not the new department.

J-1 Early Program End

  • Report when a scholar is finishing at Yale more than 30 days before their DS-2019 end date or is finishing at Yale.
  • DO NOT submit this request if the scholar  wishes to transfer their DS-2019 / SEVIS record to another institution in the U.S.  Instead, instruct the scholar to complete the J-1 Scholar Transfer Out Request.

Requests for Other Visa Types & Non-Yale Sponsored J-1s

J-1 Scholar/Employee Intake (3rd Party, AT)

  • Similar to the 'J-1 Visa - Yale Sponsorship Application' Request, this is a request to bring a non-Yale sponsored J-1 scholar to Yale. (e.g. Fulbright or other institution sponsored)
  • Also used to report a Yale graduate on a J-1 student visa who has been approved for Academic Training work authorization.
  • After submitting this request, OISS will reach out to you to collect additional required information. In the future, we will collect this additional information inside MyOISS.

H-1B, O-1, TN, E-3, F-1 OPT/STEM OPT, and Other Scholar/Employee Intake

  • Similar to the 'J-1 Visa - Yale Sponsorship Application' Request, this is a request to bring scholars in other visa types to Yale.
  • After submitting this request, OISS will reach out to you to collect additional required information. In the future, we will collect this additional information inside MyOISS.
