USCIS Issues Redesigned Employment Authorization Documents

May 8, 2017

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has redesigned  the Employment Authorization Document (EAD), as well as the Permanent Resident Card (also known as a Green Card).  The agency began issuing the new cards on May 1, 2017.  Those who are approved for OPT on or after May 1st, will have slightly different card.   These redesigns use enhanced graphics and fraud-resistant security features to create cards that are highly secure and more tamper-resistant than the ones currently in use.  Click here for more information.

A few reminders about your EAD card:

  • If you are authorized for post completion F-1 OPT the EAD by itself is not sufficient for re-entry to the U.S.  You will also need a valid F-1 visa and your most recent I-20.
  • Remember to report your employment to OISS as soon as it is confirmed.  Failure to report your OPT employment information after the first 90 days could jeopardize your F-1 status.
