Visa Sponsorship Policy
With regard to non-immigrant visa sponsorship, the university’s mission is to sponsor visas for full-time positions and advise on immigration options for students, researchers, trainees and employees who hold academic appointments. The Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS) oversees all non-immigrant visa issues. The process begins with the Yale host department working with either the Office of the Provost (Faculty Handbook) or the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs to secure the appropriate academic appointment. From here the host department use submits data to OISS.
On rare occasions the university sponsors high ranked M&P positions, normally with the approval of the Exceptions Committee. Please speak to your HR Generalist about eligibility details and the process.
The university sponsors immigrant visas (green cards) for select, permanent positions as outlined in our materials.
Use of legal counsel for most non-immigrant visa issues is not permitted. Any request to use outside counsel must first be reviewed and cleared by OISS before any commitments are made.
