Thursday, March 3, 2022 - 5:45pm to 7:00pm
Join us for our second event in our arts & culture Understanding America series this spring, this time featuring the beloved Disney character of Donald Duck. This event will showcase the origins, history, and rise to global popularity of Donald Duck in the pantheon of original characters created by the Walt Disney Studios (California) during the Golden Age of American animation. Particular emphasis will be on the chronology of Donald’s definitive appearance, personality, and ascent in viability among the rising Disney company. Abundant cartoon examples and academic scholarship will be included along with an acute focus on Donald’s creative team including inquiry into the expansion of the Disney Duck characters, Donald’s original voice actor, and the revival of the character’s esteem in the special 50th anniversary celebration in 1984. Each talk will be led by Brian Peterson, a Master of Divinity student at Yale, cultural historian, and Community Fellow at Helen Hadley Hall. Space is limited for this event due to in-person, indoor COVID event guidelines, and masks will be required for all guests. You must register to attend. If spaces are full, please register for the waitlist in case we have last minute cancellations.
