Before You Leave Home

As you prepare to depart, you will have many questions about living in New Haven, including the items listed below and on the right margin of this page.  You may want to be in touch with other students and scholars through Yale's student organizations or in the department or school with which you will be affiliated.  You may also want to consider attending a pre-departure orientation program organized by EducationUSA offices around the world. This will give you an opportunity to meet other students from home who will be beginning their studies in the U.S. this fall as well as get answers to general questions you may have.

Important Documents

You will want to bring certain documents with you, including family, medical and financial documents, as well as an International Driving Permit, and school and health records for children who may be in school or day care while here.

✓  When You Pack Your Bags

Be sure to keep the following documents in your carry-on luggage as you will need them when you enter the U.S.:  Passport with a valid visa for the status you intend to hold in the U.S., your immigration document (I-20, DS-2019, H-1B approval, etc.) and proof of financial support if you are a student.
